Overview & Highlights

Nestled in the heart of Nice at 25 Rue Massena, Taverne Massena Maison Cresci offers an authentic experience of French and Mediterranean cuisine with a particular emphasis on fresh seafood and classic pasta dishes. This charming restaurant captivates diners with its warm, inviting atmosphere and consistently generous portions, making it a local favorite as well as a must-visit for travelers seeking genuine flavors of the region.

The extensive menu celebrates the bounty of the sea with standout offerings such as Moules Taverne avec Frites (seasonal mussels served with fries), Saumon Grillé (grilled salmon), and the succulent Gambas à la Provençale—prawns bathed in fragrant herbs and rich Provençal sauce. For those craving a taste of Italy, the pasta selection is equally tempting, featuring classics like Lasagne al Forno, Carbonara, and a vibrant Napolitaine sauce that bursts with sun-ripened tomato goodness.

Diners consistently praise the freshness and depth of flavor in every bite. Imagine the delicate sweetness of the mussels, paired with crispy golden fries, or the tender, smoky char on the grilled dorade or loup that perfectly complements a drizzle of fine olive oil. The gnocchi, described by one guest as tasting “self-made,” melts effortlessly on the palate, a genuine testament to the kitchen’s dedication to quality. Adventurous eaters will love the escargots, a local favorite here, praised for their tender texture and rich garlic butter that leaves you craving more.

To end your meal on a perfect note, the dessert menu offers delights like velvety Crème Brûlée, luscious Fondant au Chocolat, and the classic Tiramisu. While some guests have found the tiramisu to be an average rendition, the range of other sweet treats more than compensates, each crafted with care and finesse to satisfy any sweet tooth.

Beyond the food, the ambiance at Taverne Massena Maison Cresci is a blend of cozy charm and casual elegance. With attentive, friendly service that makes you feel genuinely welcomed, it’s easy to linger over a meal here. The alfresco dining option allows you to soak in the vibrant street life of Nice while savoring hearty, flavorful dishes. Customers frequently mention the value—large portion sizes that invite sharing, making each visit both satisfying and affordable.

Whether you’re wrapping up a day of sightseeing or seeking a memorable spot to indulge in regional flavors, Taverne Massena strikes a delightful balance between traditional and contemporary dining. Its reputation for generous servings, top-tier seafood, and authentic Italian-French fare ensures that your experience will be both flavorful and heartfelt.

Great restaurant! We were searching for a nice local we could eat on our last day and found this one. The food xame really fast and tasted so good ! The gnocchi tasted self made and was our favourite dish :) We also tried for the first time snails here and loved them !

9 months ago We wandered past this restaurant not planning to have lunch, and saw so many people sitting happily in the alfresco dining section, and saw the massive pots of mussels! I have to say, the serving sizes are massive, especially if you're Asian-sized . But, the food quality was also impressive. The escargot was one of the better ones I've had. The mussels were small, but super sweet, and a very very generous serve of well over 1.5kg. The onion soup was also beautifully done, though it's our first time having French onion soup. Plenty of stringy cheese inside with large pieces of toasted bread. I ordered the steak tartare so that my wife could try it, but she wasn't keen, and I truly had trouble finishing it, as it was such a large serve (250gr), but it was beautifully done. Again, one of the better ones I've had. Unfortunately, we didn't have room for dessert after such large servings of mains, but we will come back for sure!!

Steak tartae bigger than my head lol Really amazing food servers were wonderful Portions are very big , definitely worth the money

The frog legs were excellent — tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The tartar was also quite good, fresh and well-seasoned. However, the tiramisu was rather average, lacking the rich taste and texture you’d expect from a great dessert. Overall, a decent meal, but with some room for improvement.

We had a wonderful dinner at Taverne Massena! The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We ordered a variety of dishes to try, and everything was delicious. The pizza came with a perfectly crispy crust and fresh toppings, while the pasta with cream and mushrooms was rich, flavorful, and comforting. The escargots were a true highlight—tender and full of traditional French flavor. We also tried the frog legs, which were surprisingly delicate and very well seasoned. The classic French onion soup was warm, hearty, and the ideal start to the meal. Overall, the food, service, and ambiance made for a lovely dining experience. Taverne Massena is definitely a place we’d visit again when in Nice!

The place seems like a typical tourist restaurant, but is very far from it. The food was very good, the portions were huge and delicious. I have tried the Escargot and the Frog legs. Both tasted delicious. The service was great. The prices are very reasonable, especially as if you can share a portion.
